Season of balls

Although a lot of balls start in Vienna in November, the most famous like Opernball are in the period of the carnival.

The most Easter markets you find in the centre but one of the niceest you find in front of the castle of Schoenbrunn (Schoenbrunn palace)



Each year in spring the Vienna city marathon starts. The marathon starts usually on the largest bridge across the river Danube (Reichsbrücke) and then the participants will run in front of my apartements in Untere Donaustrasse.



Long night of churches

On one saturday in May all churhes in Vienna are opened until midnight. In some churches where you have to pay entrance fee in normal times, there is free access.

Life Ball

Guests from all over the world visit regularly this event in and in front of the Vienna city hall (Rathaus).




The largest open-air festival of Europe, the Donauinselfest is held regularly each year in June with concerts lasting 3 days - free entrance for all people.

Jazz Festival Vienna

The Vienna Jazz Festival starts every year in mid June and ends after about 4 weeks.


July / August:

Vienna Film Festival

The Rathaus Film Festival starts either in the last week of June or early July and lasts 9 weeks to 1 Week of September.

If the weather is good every night, starting at darkness in front of the city hall, on a large video wall are shown operas, operettas, musicals, concerts, a.s.o. Besides there are established huts like small restaurrants and you do not have to get hungry or thursty, there's plenty of choice of international kitchen. Let yourself be surprised .

Africa Days

Late July to early August, the Africa days start with many artists, workshops and various programs on the Danube Island.

Popfest Vienna

The Popfest Wien starts at the end of July on the Karlsplatz (close to St.Charles churh)


September :

Cirque du Soleil

Usually in September a guest of this wonderful circus , Cirque du Soleil in Vienna.

September / October :


The October festival takes place - at a similar time as the Octoberfest in Munich - every year in late September / early October in the Prater in front of the ferris wheel / Riesenrad.
Vienna Night Run

The Vienna night run  takes place every year in late September or in the first days of October. For this reason, the ring road / Ringstrasse is closed for traffic and is reserved for the runners for several hours.

October :

Long Night of the Museums

Every year on 1st saturday in October the Long Night of Museums starts. All the museums of Vienna have opened until or after midnight and you can visit them at a very small one-time entrance fee from 18:00 (6 p.m.) clock. You can also use this card (2013 it had cost EUR 13, - for adults but children up to 12 years are free ) for all transport vehicles within Vienna at no additional cost . Highly Recommended !

October / November :


The Viennale, the Vienna International Film Festival shows every style and type of different films. It takes a little over 2 weeks.

November / December :

Christmas markets

Every year in mid-November the numerous Christmas markets take place in Vienna. The most popular are:
 - at the city hall / Rathaus
 - in front of St. Charles church / Karlskirche
 - at Freyung
 - on the place Am Hof
 - in front of Schoenbrunn Palace
 - In the quarter Spittelberg

The Christmas market at the Rathaus was quite expanded in recent years and offers not only the children but all ages many attractions. Moreover the lights are overwhelming.

The Christmas market at Karlsplatz in front of Karlskirche offers a lot of crafts. Sometimes you can also watch a blacksmith forging of iron or glass blowers at your artistic activity.

The Christmas market at Schönbrunn is simply because of the fully illuminated castle in the background a visual attraction , but also offers plenty of handicrafts.

Spittelberg Christmas market go through some narrow "old" streets of 7th district of Vienna. All the small stores, shops and huts are all well decorated and equipped in Christmas style. These shops are opened until late evening hours.

At Freyung you can see handicrafts in various styles.

The typical Viennese Maroniprater (a person who sells maronis) and many huts with punch, mulled wine and goodies are positioned on all markets.

New Year market

This New Year's market always takes place in front of the Schoenbrunn Palace, begins at 27 December and ends on New Year's day.

Sights of Vienna

Vienna has to offer a lot for its visitors: St. Stephen's Cathedral is the most famous place to go,but also the Schönbrunn Palace,the Ferris wheel and the Spanish Riding School with its Lipizzaner horses are known worldwide.

There are also a number of many other important buildings. A few examples:

Opera - known for the opera ball.

Burgtheater - many well-known actors have played in this theatre for many years and do it today, too.

Kunsthistorisches Museum - the museum of fine arts is not known only since the robbery of Saliera some years ago. It has thousands of exponats from all art forms and cultural cycles.

Schönbrunn Zoo - in the oldest and largest zoo in Europe you find different animal species. It is always trying to offer new attractions.

Konzerthaus - the Concert Hall is well known for the annually held New Year's Concert on Jan.01.

Prater - is the famous amusement park around the Ferris Wheel. It was erected on the former imperial hunting grounds and is very popular with its attractions.

University - a huge crowd of students from Europe and beyond, study at Vienna University.

VIC - thousands of employees of the United Nations are working in the high mounuments "towers on the other side of the Danube".
